White orange

I can't smell a thing!

Just as we all thought the corona pandemic was under control here in Europe, my husband and I went through the unforgettable experience of having corona.

I didn’t want to believe it for a while (despite the positive test result), but one morning, I wanted to eat my favourite mandarin oranges, and I couldn’t smell a thing! I was expecting the typical citrus smell when I was peeling the fruit, but there was nothing! That was the moment when I accepted that I really have corona.

I could still taste a little bit, but I didn’t smell anything. For a foodie like me, this was really a horrible feeling. I almost didn’t want to eat anymore. What’s the point of eating if you can’t smell the food? (In case you get any ideas, I do not recommend getting corona as a weight loss technique.)

The whole thing motivated me to create this painting. I asked myself, how do I visualise food without a smell?

Something important was missing from the experience – like a painting without colour. That’s why you see the oranges in this painting done all in white. Food without colour is like food without a smell.

THIS IS WHAT THIS PAINTING COULD LOOK LIKE ON YOUR WALL

Something a bit old, but the ideas are still new
