Those were the days

Some of the best moments in life are the ones you cannot post to Instagram.

This new painting was inspired by an article I read in the New York Times about the Graduate Hotel in Iowa City. They build hotels in university towns, and the main customers are the parents of high school or university students coming to visit - so the rooms are decorated in a nostalgic, 1990s style, when those parents when to school themselves.

The concept immediately caught my attention, and I decided to paint my student room, the way it would have looked like if I had gone to university in America, and not in Taiwan. So you'll see my favorite movie posters, and old iMac G3, a guitar. But then I thought: wait a minute, a student's room is never that neat and tidy! There's always a big mess, empty pizza boxes, dead plants, clothes strewn around…

So, my friends at the Graduate Hotel – if you really want to take people back to their college years, about you add these things to your hotel rooms, too?

BEHIND THE SCENES...

THIS IS WHAT THIS PAINTING COULD LOOK LIKE ON YOUR WALL

Something a bit old, but the ideas are still new
