Summer Jazz

Can it play? Does it matter?

A while ago, I saw an image on Pinterest: A piano in the ocean, with a woman in a swimming suit sitting down to (pretend to?) play it.

Does it even play? I don’t think it matters.

To me this is an image of the summer, and of jazz. The sound of ices cubes in a glass. Cool water, hot air, the soothing sound of piano jazz music. Something to cool you down in the boiling heat of summer.

Jazz belongs to the city, though. I wasn’t sure in the beginning which city. New Orleans? I’ve never been there. Tokyo? In the end, I feel jazz belongs the most to New York City, so that’s the skyline that you see in the background.

Imagine that you work in some big downtown skyscraper, you finished work on a hot summer day, you go to your favourite piano bar to enjoy the air-conditioned air and the cool, soothing jazz. Relief!

I tried out two different colour schemes for the sky and ocean, purple and blue, or orange and blue. Orange better captures the heat from above, the contrast between hot and cold, although I’m cheating here a little bit – the ocean will never actually look this blue with an orange sky.

And finally, here’s a song for you to listen to.

PS: Yamaha is the best! I’m from Asia.

BEHIND THE SCENES...

THIS IS WHAT THIS PAINTING COULD LOOK LIKE ON YOUR WALL

Something a bit old, but the ideas are still new
