Maria's mountain

The experiments continue

If you have followed along here recently, you have seen a couple of experiments (like this one).

This painting is an exploration of colour.

The last time we went to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, we saw an exhibition of the works of Maria Lassnig and I was so struck by the colours that she used on her painting titled "Lady with brain".

I find the colours very vibrant and upbeat, but she is showing a woman that is depressed and struggling. The combination is very conflicting and has a big impact.

My art is upbeat, and I don't really want to create something that makes people depressed. I don't think I could do something with so much feeling. So I consider this a colour exploration. I selected three scenes: a flower vase, a fish and a mountain landscape. Then I picked one at random out of a hat. It was the landscape of mountains with a lake. I analysed how the used the colours, and then I applied it to that scene.

I think it turned out really well! Call me Maria Su, hahaha!

Something a bit old, but the ideas are still new
