Rebel without a cause

Riding off into the sunset on a kiddie ride

This painting started from the idea that I wanted to practice portraits. An Instagram friend suggested that I paint James Dean. I had no idea who that was!

So I tried to better understand why he's famous. I watched to movies. The first one was called "My life with James Dean" but it's not what you would think. It's an artsy French movie that has nothing to do with James Dean! The other movie was his famous film, "Rebel without a cause".

I gotta tell you, if they would release the same movie today, people would think it's terrible. I really didn't feel much of a connection with it. But what was very clear that James Dean's character in the movie had a rebellious streak. So I thought: I can rebel as well!

James Dean liked to go car racing. Being the rebel that I am, I am not giving him a Ferrari, I'm giving him a kiddie ride!

Something a bit old, but the ideas are still new
