Where the sea meets love

For lots of Taiwanese couples, a dream honeymoon destination is the Greek island of Santorini. For many years, its turquoise water, blue sky and white houses have attracted newlyweds.

I had to think of this when the hubby and I went on vacation to Greece this summer.

In Chinese, the Aegean Sea is called 愛琴海 (Àiqínhài). Now, what you need to know about foreign place names in Chinese is that the characters are chosen by sound - Aiqin sounds similar to Aegean, and the last character just means “sea” or “ocean”.

But there is a connection between the honeymoon and the Aegean Sea: the first character, 愛, means “love”.

I thought this was a very romantic image: the Aegean is where the sea meets love. And so, I painted this vista of sky, sea and rocks in shades of pink.

I listened to this song when I was painting, it goes like this:

幸福路也許很遠很長 The road to happiness may be far and long
人只有雙腳沒有翅膀 People only have feet, we don’t have wings
我享受一步一步前往 I enjoy every step forward
有真愛在等我的方向 Because true love waits at the destination

BEHIND THE SCENES...

THIS IS WHAT THIS PAINTING COULD LOOK LIKE ON YOUR WALL

Something a bit old, but the ideas are still new
