Paris glamping

The romantic view over the Paris rooftops is a well-worn image. Do you see it in front of your eyes? Maybe you see the Eiffel Tower, or Sacré Coeur. Maybe there’s a group of friends sitting on a metal roof, sipping wine. A cheesy image of unrealistic romance. But oh so appealing!

When I heard about the 2024 Olympics coming to Paris this summer, an idea began to take shape. Paris has famously expensive hotels, and the city will of course book up completely for a big event like the Olympics. If you want to stay in Paris on a budget this summer, you’ll have to get creative.

So rather than squeeze into a tiny, over-priced hotel room whose window looks out to the wall of another building, why not try the rooftops?

Simply put up a tent and make yourself comfortable. What more do you need than a bottle of wine for the evening and a little camping stove and a percolator to make coffee in the morning? Glamping is hip!

I had a lot of fun with this painting. Did you ever notice the ridiculous number of little chimneys that Paris houses have?
