Santal 33

Flirtatious sandalwood

This painting is inspired by my favourite perfume, Le Labo's Santal 33.

According to the description on Le Labo's website, this perfume evokes the image of the Marlboro Man, from those ads that showed a man and his horse in front of a fire on the Great Plains under tall, blue evening skies.

But I wanted to create my own expression about how I feel about the perfume, and so I did more research about what the scents they mixed in this special perfume, and transform the scents into a colour spectrum, which of course is completely personal.

Then I looked at these colours and tried to picture what kind of image would describe this aroma.

I wrote down a few words: night falls; orange sunset; ocean breeze to the shore; the smell of dry summer grass mixed with flirtatious sandalwood, burnt a little by a cigarette; smoke rising; elegant iris flowers blooming fully in the dark.

I feel this scent is generally very calm, and combines a little mysterious and mature allure.
