Happy Kings B'day

2 Apr 2021 | Works

Another painting in my Eindhoven calendar series!

April is the month of Easter - and also the month of King’s Day, when The Netherlands celebrates the birthday of the King by dressing in orange, selling junk on flea markets, and getting drunk.

Seriously, those three things.

So, for the April painting in my Eindhoven calendar series, I was looking for something that would bring Easter and King’s Day together.

I had two ideas for this painting: the first one would be a bunny wearing the uniform of the King (with medals pinned to his chest) and holding an Easter egg. The other would be a bunny dressed in an orange suit, holding a bouquet of flowers as a birthday present.

You get the idea!

I settled on the bunny in the orange suit. Easter is over, all the eggs have been found and eaten, and now the bunny’s work is done for this year, and he is dressing up and is getting ready for the second holiday of the month.

Happy Easter and Happy King’s Day!

Something a bit old, but the ideas are still new
