Remastered, 20 years later
I recently watched the movie Amélie again after 20 years. (It came out in 2001!)
The character of Amélie Poulin still has a place in my heart. The movie really switched on my creativity when I was a teenager living in Taiwan. Amélie represents my youth, my fantasies about France, what it might be like to live in Paris. The movie encouraged me to be me: It’s okay to be a little weird, to be introvert, you don’t need people’s approval. Whatever you do, though, it’s important to be kind, to do something good for people, even if it’s just a little thing.
I felt like I miss Amélie. The movie had really influenced me, but I had almost forgotten about it.
I decided to paint Amélie to remind me of these feelings and this time.
I tried to imagine what it would be like if the cast came together again after all these years and film the movie all over again. If Amélie is no longer in her 20s, but in her 40s. Is she still the same?
