Happy Move

Summer vibe, frame by frame

A few months ago while I browsing through my Instagram, and I saw an advertisement from Mr.Porter for a cross-over summer project with Prada. It's a simple ad - a guy in a bowling alley knocks over all the pins at once and then starts a celebratory dance. It's silly, cute and a little bit sexy. I bookmarked it and moved on.

Recently, I thought I needed something to celebrate the summer and create a cheerful vibe. The ad came back to me, so I thought, why not make an animation? It's something that I'd never done before, so it would be a challenge, but at the same time, it would be a happy one. My husband said something like: "Are you sure? You will have to paint lots of individual pictures," and murmuring something about video frame rates and stuff. But I'm a rebellious guy, so I decided I would do it anyway.

I spent three days to paint 54 different poses of this dancer in one painting. Then I spent another two days to combine the different poses into a 20-second video. Good grief!

I don't think I ever want to do this again! Now we know for sure I'm a painter, and not an animator.

BEHIND THE SCENES...

Something a bit old, but the ideas are still new
