Festas de Lisboa

Save the sardine by eating more pasteis de nata!

When I saw that Festas de Lisboa -- the biggest party of the year in Lisbon, when the streets and squares are packed with revellers -- was doing a design competition, I knew I had to participate!

I feel a personal connection to this big night, even though I've only visited the city once. The hubby and I were on vacation in Portugal and just happened to be staying in the Bica neighborhood in Lisbon, not knowing we were in town for the biggest party of the year! With a music stage set up right outside the apartment, we had no choice other than to join in with the festivities.

Don't believe me? The proof is right here!

This painting captures the three things that I remember and love from those few days in Lisbon: grilled sardines, traditional Portuguese tiles, and, my favourite: pasteis de nata. That's why my proposal for saving the sardine is: eat more pasteis de nata!
